Sports Scholarship

2012 Taupo Events Centre and AC Baths Sports Scholarships

As a community facility we are often approached for sponsorship and support for our local sports teams and individual sportsmen and women. In the past we have offered individual sponsorship to youth and adult athletes in our district. This year we have looked to support teams rather than individuals. We are proud to be sponsors of Tauponui-a-Tia College First 15 Rugby and the Team Taupo Junior Sports Scholarship run through Chris and Cindy Smith. Each have some very talented athletes and we look forward to continuing our support to help develop them to being the best athletes they can be.

Team Taupo Junior Sports Scholarship

The Team Taupo Junior Sports Scholarship is comprised of 17 athletes, they come as individuals from team sports as well as solo sports people.  Ranging from Year 7 to Year 13, boys and girls.  Their sports include BMX, Motocross, Triathlon, Sailing, Kartsports, Swimming, Boxing, Mountain biking.  Most of them representing their sport at a national and even international level.

This is the first time many of the athletes have done any specific strength training in a gym facility. Fitting this in to their already busy schedules may be a challenge in itself! With the help of Youthtown, MoreFM and the Taupo Times we hope to support them to be the best they can be.
