History
Taupo Borough Council named the Park in honour of Owen Delany for his significant contribution to its construction and his involvement in sport in Taupo over the previous 30 years.
Owen Delany (1921-1999)

Born in Matamata, Owen Delany was a dominant figure of the Taupo sporting scene from 1953 when he formed the United Wanderers Cricket Club. In 1954 he reformed the Taupo Rugby Football Club.
On 17 June 1995 Owen Delany was awarded an MBE for his services to sport.
